Human beings are having infinite creative capability. More often than not, it takes willingness from the part of the individual to create something meaningful. Once, the job is taken up, creative juice starts flowing which often results into wonderful creations! The young man from Long Beach, California, did something great by the application of his imagination and creativity.
Schmidt bought bus number 5 codenamed “Big Blue” through a sale website. Fortunately for him, the bus belonged to a church and was in good condition. It used to remain standstill barring a few journeys. He learnt about the operation of the bus just before he bought it. One of the old drivers helped him to learn the operation.
The conversion process was costly but when it was done, it looked worthwhile. While the bus costed $4500, Schmidt spent three months and additional $9000 in the conversion process. The bus was fitted with all possible domestic appliances in addition to shower, sink and toilet arrangements. Additionally, he also spent $400 for solar panels, $400 for a mattress and $2000 for electricity hook-up.
After the conversion, the most amazing part was the reactions from the people who used the bus earlier. Schmidt was flooded with messages on twitter and, IMGUR and comments on the Instagram regarding the posted pictures. Messages/ comments were mostly sent by the members of the church and wives of the old bus drivers. They were happy to remember old memories associated with the bus and were delighted simultaneously about the renovated avatar. Also, there were messages from the children who used this bus in the past and they shared their nostalgia.
Upon completion of the renovation, Schmidt undertook a 10,000 mile journey from California to Florida crossing 30 states. Schmidt kept on carrying out some renovations or the other, although in a much smaller scale.
Regarding his future plan, he commented; “My plans are to stay in Florida until March, then most likely find my way back slowly to Vegas, and up to Seattle to live again for a while. Find some land to park on. That’s kind of the life I’ve imagined for myself. Ride around, travel, find temporary work, and see where to go from there”.
