You know Venus as that shining bright planet but there are other facts related to this planet and those aren’t quite pleasing. The climate of this planet is literally insane and hostile with average temperature of 864 degrees Fahrenheit, extremely high and crushing barometric pressure. Add to these the presence of volcanoes on the planet and you can imagine the hell it is there.

It is to be noted that Venus is nearly the same size as the Earth and is 25.8 million miles closer to the Sun. because of this, it receives 40 percent more solar radiation. When it comes to habitability it is still on the edge. The atmosphere here is extremely heated because of the greenhouse effects caused by the dense, mostly carbon dioxide dominant environment.

But simulations from NASA Godard Institute researchers have figured out that though the present day Venus is quite hostile, there was a time when the planet may have had oceans of liquid water and Earth-like habitable climate. It is believed that these favourable conditions endured until the volcanoes all around the planet made it what it is today.

The simulations show that it could have had oceans as deep as 525 metres. At that time, it had a mean surface air temperature of 11 degrees (52 degrees Fahrenheit) with maximum touching 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The model doesn’t prove for sure that Venus was hospitable once but it does prove that it could have been. This may help in providing another theory for the origin of life on earth.

It is already a line of thinking among the scientists that meteor impacts spread materials between Mars and our planet possibly sowing the first seeds of life. It might be the same case with Venus too if it really had life on it billions of years ago. The Universe is so intriguing that it never ceases to amaze us!
