Japan has once again proved to be the most efficient by utilizing their limited space in terms of construction, by building homes into the mountains. Other than this saving them the pains of tricky landscaping, the houses are able to derive heat from the mountains they stand on.

The insulating facility is similar to the arrangement used in thermal bottles, and would be immensely comfortable for the people living in the added cold climates of the mountains.
These building created is a seven-unit residential complex at the foot of Mineyama Mountain, in southern Japan. This unique architecture, called Miyawaki Gurindo, is the work of architect Keita Nagata. This model’s compactness is enhanced by the fitting of the garden of each house on the roof of the house in front of it, taking advantage of the staircase like pattern the mountain provides.

Safety always comes first, and the construction follows this ideology by using steel-reinforced concrete, described by Real Estate Japan to be generally considered as the safest material for minimizing earthquake damage.
