Why does Piyush Mishra find Directors from South more intelligent than their Mumbai counterparts?
For those who love powerhouse performances and value talent over looks, Piyush Mishra is a well known person. Not only is he a wonderfully gifted actor, he is a great writer and singer as well. He believes in strong performances and since he comes from a theatre background, he believes in the power of the script and the director. With South Indian films doing exceptionally well not just in northern parts of India but overseas too, the Bollywood versus South debate is hotter now than ever. Many people have expressed their views regarding this comparison. When Piyush Mishra was asked about the same, he had an interesting take on the matter.

While talking to the ANI, Mishra said that the directors from the South Indian film industry are much more innovative as compared to the Bollywood directors. He said : “Bollywood as an industry has been working with the same formula over and over again, hoping that it will work each single time. Compared to their Bollywood counterparts, directors from South are much more intelligent and work harder on their research oriented projects. “Citing the example of the mega success ‘Pushpa’, Mishra said that it was a typical masala movie but the treatment made all the difference. He also presented the cultural point of view of the south movies. He said that since Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and other South Indian movies are very deep rooted in culture, the filmmakers there thoroughly research the subject, plot, characters, etc. of the movie and that is why the results are so good. That is why they rank high on relatability.

As far as we are concerned we can’t agree more with Piyush Mishra. The points he discussed are all right and well put. South Indian film directors do seem to have an edge over typical Bollywood filmmakers when it comes to the quality of cinema they are creating. So we hope our Bollywood directors learn a thing or two from their southern counterparts.
