It is a stunning piece of statistics and an eye-opener that a plastic water bottle may take upto 1000 years to decompose. The next stats will simply blow you out! In America alone, people throw away over 50 billion water bottles per year!
Plastic bottles are quickly filling up our low laying areas of our land and slowly but surely moving towards the oceans and other water bodies. For the survival of the human race, it is imperative that we find out a viable alternative to these plastic bottles and the situation demands that we do it very quickly.
Ari Jónsson is an Icelandic product designer and inventor. He has been trying hard to find out a viable alternative to the plastic bottles for a long time. He came out with a 100% natural and biodegradable solution which deploys algal, a substance obtained from algae, for making the water bottle.
These bottle takes a shape when filled with water and stays in that shape. The bottle starts decomposing as soon as it is emptied.
It’s a game changer and Jónsson reported about this invention at DesignMarch, the annual design festival held in Reykjavik. It is, as such, safe drinking from the bottle. Only problem is, the water may catch the smell of the bottle, if stored for a long time. While, this smell is not offensive, people may or may not like it. In case you are the lucky one who likes the smell, you can eat the bottle away when all the water is over.
