As California is supposed to witness water scarcity in the coming years, the amount of energy required to produce water is sure to increase. Fortunately, designs such as ‘The Pipe’ can potentially solve California’s water shortage problems.
LAGI (Land Art Generator Initiative) reported to have received a design for the city of Santa Monica, The Pipe, designed by Abdolaziz Khalili and Associates, a Canadian engineering firm is a wonderful piece of art, and it also “represents a change in the future of water”. Khalili Engineers reported The Pipe can annually generate 10,000 MWh and also desalinate about 1.5 billion gallons of drinking water.
“Results are two products: pure drinkable water that can be directed to the city’s primary water piping grid, and clear water with less than twelve percent salinity. The drinking water piped to shore, and the salt water supply to the thermal baths before redirecting back to the ocean,” the design says.
