Sushmita Sen’s cardiologist gives some excellent advice to the youth after treating her heart attack!
A couple of weeks ago, when Sushmita posted about her heart attack; everyone including her fans and colleagues were shocked. Sushmita is one of the happiest, fittest women out there. So when doctors say that sad and depressed people who do not exercise are more prone to heart problems, you start having doubts. Because Sush did not seem any of these and she still had a heart attack. The best thing is, nothing unfortunate happened and she is back to being her usual active self. It was her cardiologist Dr. Rajiv Bhagwat, who gave some useful insight regarding her heart attack and heart health in general. According to Bhagwat, the best thing was that Sushmita was at the right place and at the right time. He stressed that women should understand a fact from Sushmita’s episode and that is ‘heart attacks is not just a male thing, it happens to women too!’ With the changing roles of women in society, them juggling both household and office responsibilities, women too have come under lot of stress and are falling prey to heart attacks now adays so women should not take their heart health lightly.
He went on to give some more useful insights. He said that physically active people have a greater chance of coming out hale and hearty after such episodes because it was Sushmita’s physically fit body that helped her. But Dr. Bhagwat also stresses on not exercising too much. He said: “Exercising should not be more than 3 to 4 days a week; it should not be on a daily basis, give time for the body to recover from the strain of exercise. I am certainly not advocating that one needs to push him/herself so much as if he/she is out there to become a physical trainer. With continuous exercise without rest and adequate sleep, the hormone levels may not cool down and that poses a huge risk.”

Adding to this, Dr. Bhagwat said : “Another message we need to send out is that one shouldn’t sleep at 2 am and hit the gym or do any vigorous jogging at 6 am. This is what many youngsters are doing. That’s why you see they went to a gym and dropped dead, they went for a jog and dropped dead. A 7 to 8-hour sleep is a must before a gym, but certainly not just 2 or 3 hours. Gymming is not fashion, it should be a healthy activity. Excessive gymming can be a disaster.” Tummy-obesity, sleep deprivation, diabetes, taking protein and other health supplements are some of the other things that are affecting your heart health. The final advice that he gave was that if anyone gets a heart attack, one should immediately rush to a hospital that has angiography and angioplasty facilities. These are very simple things and can be done taken care of with just a bit of mindfulness. So get up and keep your heart healthy.
