Rani Mukerji marvels how she became a heroine when she did not have any qualities of a heroine!
Rani Mukerji is an established and much respected actress in the Hindi Film Industry. She has delivered some amazing performances and people now know her for her impeccable acting and screen presence. Rani, who is a cousin of Kajol, never believed that she would be able to make it big in the film line. Rani confesses that when she made an entry into the world of cinema, she was not a ‘heroine material’ because apart from acting, she did not have any qualities that people see in a heroine.
Heroines in our films are generally fair, beautiful, tall with an angelic voice but Rani revealed that she had the exact opposite of these qualities. Rani had a wheatish complexion, she was extremely short (barely 5 feet 1 inches) and she had a very hoarse voice so much so that someone had dubbed for her in her first movie. But as time progressed and Rani delivered some successful films, she understood that it all came down to your acting skills and how much the audiences love and accept an actor. Rani has always been loved by the audiences in her different avatars and that’s what mattered.
During an interview, Rani had expressed her views about what she thought of her prospects in Bollywood. She said : “I think when I started, I never believed I could be an actor” recalling, “I grew up watching Sridevi, Juhi, Madhuri and Rekha ji, who were these screen goddesses and I never imagined myself up there with them.” But is was Kamal Hassan who had told her the most important thing of her life, while working with her in ‘Hey Ram’. Hassan had told her : “You can’t measure your success by the height of your physical standing, but by the heights of how much you can grow professionally.” These words were truly golden words for Rani and we are so glad that she got this boost from Kamal Hassan. Had she lost faith in her capability, we would have lost an amazing actor. More power to you Rani!
