Now you don’t have to remember to take your medication. This is a polymer ring that can be implanted in the patient’s’ stomach. This way, the doctors don’t have to worry about the patient skipping medicines before the desired time, or the hormonal changes.

These implants have to be of the perfect size s, too big a size would crack and too small size, could cause intestinal blockage. This ring is activated only in alkaline conditions in the stomach and remain inactive at acidic pH.

The state of this implant is solid at acidic pH, and dissolved in neutral pH. In pigs, this device lasted from seven days, before.

MIT is collaborating with another biotechnology company Lyndra, to release the drug at the market. These rings can be used to treat obesity, or to create ingestible electronics to diagnose and monitor conditions in the gastrointestinal tract.
