Origin and types of Food Arts:

Creating beautiful and unbelievable models (animal, Bird, Statue, Face etc.) with food is called food art. This perhaps was first started as a formal form of the art United Kingdom and spread across all other countries. It was originally started from preparation of beautiful fruit salad and presenting the food in various appealing ways. Seeing the popularity and appreciation of the food arts artists slowly took it up as a formal medium of art.

Food art is an umbrella name representing various forms of art where food items are used as a medium. Some of the many art forms are the following:

Decoration of food items in the plate in visually appealing manner. You must have noticed how tempting and irresistible it becomes when you see the pictures of food plates in various restaurants. There are specialized photographers who specialize in taking this kind of photos
Some artists take various vegetables/ fruits and curve them to make attractive sculptures. Pumpkin, watermelon and other soft fruits are the popular medium for that
Some innovative artists like to take various fruits and vegetables and simply rearrange them to make a temporary sculpture
Some food art represents giving shape to cooked foods (like rice, egg etc.) to represent some other object
In restaurants often fish/ meat etc. are cooked and processed before keeping them in the shape of fish/ animals for serving
