Every new device boasts their display is brighter and better, but the Pixel 8 Pro could be better. When we tested the Pixel 7 Pro, it reached a ridiculous 927 nits, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max reached a blazing 1,550 nits with HDR video.
This difference is particularly noticeable in sunny situations, where panels under 1,000 nits are invisible. It would beat the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s peak brightness output, giving the Pixel 8 Pro the edge on paper and making it more workable in midafternoon sun.
One rumour suggests the Pixel 8 Pro will include a ‘Super Actua display’ for this reason. This panel seems to have 1,600 nits HDR brightness and 2,400 nits peak brightness, which is better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple finally added a 5x zoom camera to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. That matches the Pixel 7 Pro’s 48MP telephoto camera’s 5x zoom, but Google can improve results to widen the margin.
Google’s Pixel 8 Pro preview page shows a similar triple camera system, although its camera hump may hide a more powerful zoom lens. It would be great to match the Galaxy S23 Ultra with 10x zoom. Google’s Super Res Zoom might make this 10x telephoto camera take better photographs and videos than Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. Even with the same zoom, the Pixel 8 Pro would have a slight advantage over the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which offers 25x.

This is interesting because Google historically undercuts competitors on pricing. The Pixel line stands out for this reason, so a cheaper Pixel 8 Pro would be a huge victory. Unfortunately, the Pixel 8 Pro may cost $999, $100 more than last year’s model. Google could yet win value.
Apple’s priciest iPhone is the 15 Pro Max. It costs $1,999, $100 more than last year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max. Even at $999, the Pixel 8 Pro is $200 cheaper than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Since transitioning to USB-C from Lightning with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, its flagship is still hard to charge. This would be the easiest way for the Pixel 8 Pro to trump the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The Pixel 7 Pro included 30W USB-C charging. Its recharging time might improve significantly, making up for the series’ poor battery life.
