Advancements in Military Warfare
History pages are filled with the tales of War that have been fought since the dawn of civilization but since then the world has come far off from the spear and bow and arrow era. Since then there have been number of advancements in military warfare that have revolutionized the modern warfare scenario. There have been number of military and ideological achievements that have changed the warfare from battle formations and gunpowder to better communications and stealth weapons. Critically examining the inventions and uses of the newest technologies helps us to gauge the level of technological advancement in modern warfare. These often impersonal devices can bring about changed feelings towards war on the global stage. At the forefront of such discussions are the issues of sovereignty and civilian casualties. These matters should be considered when going about the warfare business. As the technological advancements are made, the world moves towards the betterment of our lifestyle and in all seriousness, life is better as a whole due to technological up gradation otherwise we’d still be in the stone age. In the previous century we have seen the invention of tanks, machine guns and the potential planet destroying nuclear bombs but how could the modern era be better than that?
1) High Intensity Lasers:
The all-time famous Star Wars concept of using lasers to combat enemy seemed to be a thing of the movies but this has changed in modern times. The transition to laser beams is mainly due to the accuracy and long ranges it can reach. The advancements have in these laser beams have been to such lengths that they could be mounted on a ship as well. The weapon emits a an energy beam without the projectile which is the reason for its accuracy and since laser beams are forms of light so they would in concept travel at the speed of light which makes this weapon speedy and accurate both. They are being designed in concept as anti-aircraft and anti-missile weapons to blow the incoming drones or missiles out of the sky and the ground based tests have been successful in both regards so far.
2) Stealth Technology:
Stealth technology as the name suggests is used as means to evade detection from the enemy under varying circumstances. Probably, it is the one of the first major advancements in military warfare. This technology began around WW-II and was started by Germany most likely. While it isn’t completely possible for a plane to escape or be invisible to radar detection, stealth planes are usually designed such that they have reduced reflections, low radio frequency spectrum and very few radar emissions. This usually helps in planning successful attacks within enemy’s territory. Stealth aircrafts include the F-22 Raptor and the B-2 Spirit.
Another odd robot designed for stealth purposes is Meshworm. It may look like a small monster made up of wire and paper but in reality it is quite a tough bot that can infiltrate its way through tiny spaces and is able to deliver explosives and can also be used for espionage purposes.
3) Space Weaponry:
It was only a matter after World War II that space related weapons were developed and we see that currently USA, Russia and China all three have tested there space weapons successfully. They are mainly designed to attack the targets on Earth from space, and even sometimes intercept and destroy the missiles that travel through the space. These weapons could also be used to destroy communications and satellite systems of the enemies as well. An X-37 is an unmanned spacecraft that can carry missiles as well. Though China, Russia and USA have developed anti-satellite weapons, still the deployment of these X-37b spacecraft’s strategically around the globe could prove useful in targeting any place on the surface of earth at any given time.
Militaries all around the world are in a race to best their opponents and equip their armies with the latest tech weapons. The spending related to advancements in military warfare is humongous all around the globe. And though how much we may deny it the technological revolution of which we are a part of and enjoy so much are mainly due to the military industrial complexes.
