Technology and modern warfare

Wars are times of total distress that make mankind question on its being civilized. It is nonetheless a reality and it has to be admitted that the survival of the fittest has always been the rule of the thumb of the nature. Since the Neanderthal time, war has been an inevitable part of life. It is sometimes fought with the same kind and at times it goes interspecies.

Technique of the battle, from the early times to today’s modern conflicts, have been pushed by the technology to its core. We welcome and celebrate the modern ideas, but we must question ourselves regarding the implicit cost and the potential of devastation it may cause in the long run. But again, we cannot deny the reality. Survival of the fittest has been the inexorable reality since the inception of living.

It won’t be surprising to learn that it is all about money. In 2012, the United States budget for the Department of Defense was an astonishing $707.5 billion. This is nearly $200 billion more than the gross domestic product of Switzerland, France, Germany and a lot many Schengen countries. Where does all that money go? Of course, a large chunk of it gets siphoned off to their war bases spread worldwide. A smaller portion, around $80 to $100 billion, goes towards research, development, testing, and evaluation of weapons. It is from there that we get all the newest and craziest weapons used in modern warfare.

Technology aims at making human life easier and comfortable. Focusing on comfort, the new tech geniuses have come up with weapons as slim and portable as a mobile phones. Well, do not be surprised as one of such devices is the MEGPUL FMG 9, that can fit into your pant’s pocket and when off for use, it unfolds into a fully functional weapon that can empty a 9mm 30-round clip!! This gear comes with an installed auto tactical light making the weight very less. It also comes with a far sight camera to spot out the distant enemy. Expectedly, the tech geniuses are going one step ahead and coming up with an automated version of this beautiful device in the near future.

After portability, there comes to the question of accuracy- an avenue where the high tech world is creating wonders. Gone are those days when grenades were thrown by hand with a hope that it will hit the target causing massive destruction of life and property as intended. A device called Matador Rocket Launcher uses a warhead with minimum blast back that works best in confined and indoor settings. It features a switch that alters the time intervals between the two detonation charges contained in the projectile. Thus securing accuracy and causing a potentially legitimate damage.
