Apple Watch: The wait is over!

We have been watching and waiting for a long time now for Apple Watch aka iWatch. Technology Blog has published a number of articles on this (Read Part-I, Part-II ,Part-III & Part-IV for history and origin of smartwatch and our extectations regarding the same). Now, finally Apple Watch has been announced and we know the specifications to some extent.

Let us have a quick look at the new features that has been promised (remember that you have at least 3-4 months of buffer period before actually getting this watch in your hand):

Innovative Digital crown: All the smart watches including Moto 360 are having a crown, but Apple used it cleverly as a jog dial or selector knob. It will also be used for zoom and pan functions. In Moto 360, the crown is used for switching on/off function only.

Taptic Engine with built-in speaker: Together, they are designed to provide audio and vibration alert. The Taptic Engine is supposed to be capable of producing a variety of vibrations according to the nature of notifications

Touch sensitivity: This is a new technology which differentiates between a touch and a press. The force touch or a press will help with the customization of the watch face

Smart interaction: You should be able to send text replies through your voice and also should be able to give dictation for note taking purposes. You will also be able to reply via emoji with a twist. This emoji will be customizable with facial expressions designed by you, on the spot, while replying.

Apple Pay: It’s not a completely new innovation. Rather, it is replica of Google Wallet in the smartwatch. Apple is however successful in roping in Disney Co, Mcdonald’s and Whole Foods for immediate implementation of Apple Pay.Apple is however silent about many things which are important:

Battery life: This is, in fact, a vital issue for tiny smart watches. The pebble smart watch, the oldest in the business, has learnt a lesson or two in optimizing battery and power consumption. All other manufacturers are struggling to ensure that battery juice lasts for the full day. Apple not stating about the battery is probably a purposeful omission. Probably, there is nothing much to boast about?
